Hike for Healing is an annual event that encourages self-reflection and open, honest, and meaningful conversation to ignite healing of racial and cultural divides…
Healing begins with a conversation.
There are number of things that divide people in this country.
The outdoors connect people in ways that things like politics have not been able to do.
Over the past 2 years Hike for Healing has grown tremendously. In year one (2022) we completed the 45 mile Tour de LeConte in the Great Smoky Mountains. In year two (2023), we set an FKT on the Peak to Peak Challenge, the 48 mile Segment 1 of the Mountains to Sea Trail. This year, Hike for Healing will take place on Friday, June 21st and we are taking on an even bigger challenge - The Pitchell!
The Pitchell 👣:
• 62 Miles/100K
• 14,000' Elevation Gain
• Mt. Pisgah, North Carolina (5,721′) to Mt. Mitchell, North Carolina (6,684' - The highest peak in the Eastern US)
• The route runs primarily along Segment 3 of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail (MST) - We continue to use the Mountains-to-Sea Trail for Hike for Healing as the MST is heavily committed to promoting access, diversity, inclusion, equity, and land acknowledgement along the entirety of the trail across the state of North Carolina.
HOW YOU CAN JOIN THE HIKE
NEW to Hike for Healing this year! The Carolina Mountain Club (the oldest hiking club in Western North Carolina) and the Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail will be giving you an opportunity to literally join the hike. CMC and Friends of the MST will be leading multiple, easy, shorter group hikes along The Pitchell route that will give an opportunity for nearly anyone to participate in Hike for Healing. Hike leaders will not only be guiding hikes, but also helping to facilitate some intentional self-reflection and group discussion along the way. Register for any of these hikes in the event list below!
